Licensed Deep Tissue Massage Therapy for Venice and Nokomis

Deep Relief provides deep tissue massage in Venice, FL, from our massage clinic at 271 S Tamiami Trail in Nokomis, a few minutes north of the city on US-41. Every Signature DEEP Tissue session follows our trademarked DR Hit The Spot™ method, and you set the pressure yourself on a numbered scale.

Our Florida-licensed massage therapists work on chronic muscle pain, knots, and tension seven days a week. Choose a 50-, 80-, or 110-minute session, book online, or call the front desk and tell us where it hurts.

Where Tension Builds for Venice and Nokomis Clients

Everyday routines load predictable muscle groups, and deep tissue work reaches the layers where that tension settles. The Signature DEEP Tissue session is one of several treatments within our results-focused massage therapy in Venice, FL, and it works through those muscle groups in a set order.

Long Rides on the Legacy Trail

The Legacy Trail passes through Nokomis on its way to the Historic Venice Train Depot. Long rides keep the hips flexed and the lower back in one position, loading the quadratus lumborum, iliopsoas, glutes, and piriformis. The waistline and hip zones of our method target those muscles, which can refer pain into the SI joint and the front of the thigh.

Pickleball and Golf

Pickleball on the courts at Nokomis Community Park can tighten the forearms, calves, and shoulders. A round at Venetian Golf & River Club or Plantation Golf & Country Club repeats the same one-sided swing, and the mid-back, chest, and front of the neck take up the strain. Deep work on the rhomboids, pectorals, and scalenes can ease the tightness that limits your rotation and reach.

Screens, Reading, and Long Drives on US-41

Phones, books, and long drives pull the head forward. Tension then builds in the suboccipitals at the base of the skull and the upper trapezius at the base of the neck, and it often surfaces as a headache behind the eyes or at the temples. If headaches are the main reason you book, our migraines and headaches page explains how we treat them.

Conditions Our Deep Tissue Massage Helps Relieve

Deep tissue massage suits chronic pain and tension that keep returning to the same spot. It can help:

Release chronic knots and deep muscle tension.

Ease neck, shoulder, and hip pain.

Relieve low back pain and other back, neck, and nerve pain rooted in tight muscle.

Calm the muscle tension behind sciatica symptoms, especially in the piriformis and glutes.

Loosen tight muscles around stiff or arthritic joints.

Restore natural, comfortable movement.

How Deep Tissue Massage Works on Muscle and Fascia

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Compared with a relaxation massage, it applies more focused pressure to release tight areas and muscle adhesions that cause discomfort or limit your range of motion. Pain from a tight muscle can show up elsewhere, which is why our method treats each zone linked to where you hurt.

Deep Pressure Adjusted for Older Joints

The median age in Venice is close to 70. Deep work for older bodies has to respect stiff knees, replaced joints, and arthritis pain while still reaching the muscles around those joints.

The Perfect Pressure Number System

You control the depth from start to finish. Our scale runs from 5 (“Ho Hum”) through 6 (“Getting Closer”), 7 (“Perfect”), and 8 (“Whoa There”) to 9 (“Holy Ouch”). You and your therapist agree on a number before the session, and you can call out a new one at any point. If one area feels more sensitive than the rest, tell your therapist.

What to Mention at Intake

Tell your therapist before the session starts if you:

Have arthritis, a joint replacement, or a recent flare, so your therapist keeps pressure light around those joints.

Have osteoporosis or another bone condition. Check with your doctor before booking deep work.

Take blood thinners or bruise easily, since firm pressure can leave marks.

Had surgery in recent weeks. Your surgeon should approve the timing.

Are pregnant. Let our front desk know when you book, since our prenatal massage uses safe positioning and supportive bolstering instead.

If a different treatment suits your condition better than the one you booked, we can switch it at the clinic.

Massage therapist working on a client's neck and shoulders

Inside the DR Hit The Spot™ Method

Our founder, Dr. Lou (Louisa Tomaio, D.Ac., LMT), developed this method from more than 20 years of practice as a licensed acupuncturist and massage therapist. She opened Deep Relief in 2014 to fix the uneven pressure and results clients found at chain massage centers, and more than 30,000 clients have chosen us since.

Techniques Your Therapist Uses

Each session combines long gliding strokes and muscle stripping with precise work at muscle origins and insertions, where muscles attach, and at key acupuncture points. The goal is to target the body’s most common trigger points and tension patterns.

The Seven Zones in Order

Base of the skull: suboccipitals, splenius, and SCM, linked to headaches at the top, sides, and back of the head, plus jaw and eye pain.

Base of the neck: upper trapezius and levator scapulae, linked to headaches and shoulder pain.

Upper and mid-back: mid and lower trapezius and rhomboids, linked to pain between the shoulder blades.

Waistline: quadratus lumborum, iliopsoas, and erectors, linked to low back, hip, SI joint, and front-of-thigh pain.

Hips and glutes: glutes and piriformis, linked to pain down the side and back of the legs.

Front of the neck: scalenes and SCM, linked to headaches, shoulder pain, and pain along the thumb side of the arm.

Chest: pectoralis major and minor, linked to pain between the shoulder blades, at the front of the shoulder, and along the pinky side of the arm.

Florida-Licensed Therapists Trained in the Method

Every massage therapist at our Nokomis clinic holds a Florida license, carries insurance, passes our vetting, and completes training in the method before treating clients. We pay our team above the industry standard, so they have the time and energy to give each client full attention. Because all our therapists follow the same protocol, you can request someone by name or specialty or book the next opening.

Pure Ashi Barefoot Massage

Pure Ashi is a barefoot form of deep tissue work that uses gravity to apply broad pressure across large muscle groups. Sessions start at $150 for members and $180 for non-members.

Your Visit at 271 S Tamiami Trail

Our massage clinic is at 271 S Tamiami Trail, and our chiropractic and acupuncture office is at 253 S Tamiami Trail on the same stretch of US-41. The massage clinic opens seven days a week, until 7 pm on weekdays and 6 pm on weekends.

01

Before Your Session

Book online or by phone and mention any injury, surgery, or condition. New clients complete a short intake form covering health history and current pain, and your answers shape the whole session.

02

During the Session

Your therapist reviews your intake, runs a brief assessment, and sets your pressure number with you. Speak up about pressure at any point, so the work stays at a level you find comfortable.

03

After Your Massage

Some soreness for a day or two is common after deep tissue work. Drinking water and taking it easy that evening can help.

Licensing You Can Verify

Florida licenses massage therapists and massage establishments under Chapter 480 of the Florida Statutes. You can check any therapist’s license on the Florida Department of Health’s online verification portal.

Massage Paired With Acupuncture, Dry Needling, and Chiropractic

When deep tissue work alone does not resolve the problem, acupuncture, dry needling, and chiropractic care are also on our Nokomis menu. Dry needling uses thin, sterile needles to target tight muscles and trigger points, and chiropractic care focuses on joint mobility and alignment.

Deep Tissue Massage in Venice, FL: Common Questions

Quick answers for anyone planning a first deep tissue session at our Nokomis clinic.

Our massage clinic is at 271 S Tamiami Trail, Nokomis, FL 34275, just north of Venice on US-41. Google Maps shows it as Deep Relief Massage. Our chiropractic and acupuncture office sits on the same road at 253 S Tamiami Trail, so check the address before you drive over.

Age alone does not rule it out. Your health history matters more. If you have osteoporosis or take blood thinners, check with your doctor first. A lower pressure number, or a gentler option such as relaxation or orthopedic massage, may suit you better.

Yes. Cool down and drink some water first, then name the lower back and hips as your target area so those zones get the most time. If you plan another long ride the next morning, ask for moderate pressure rather than your usual depth.

It should feel like firm, productive pressure, not pain. You set the depth with our pressure scale: 7 is “Perfect,” and calling out an 8 or 9 tells your therapist to ease off.

Check with your doctor first if you have a new or serious injury. When you book, tell us what happened and how the area feels that day, and keep giving feedback during the session. If deep work is not the right fit yet, your therapist can suggest a gentler treatment.
